ADM to IAMF Exporting
Orbit Pro exports a loaded ADM BWF master as an IAMF file — the format YouTube brands as Eclipsa Audio — with the elements, codec and profile the destination needs. This page covers the choices that decide what ends up in the file. For what the format is, see IAMF Basics; for the YouTube upload rules, see Eclipsa Audio on YouTube.
Still being written
This page is being filled in alongside the 1.6.0 beta. The sections below are complete; more follow.
To export every ADM master in a session's playlist at once, see Batch ADM to Eclipsa Audio™ Export.
Presets
Each preset sets the codec, the container, which elements the file carries and the profile it declares.
| Preset | Codec | What the file carries | Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Opus | A channel-based element, and your objects mixed into a scene-based element | Base |
| Esfera | Opus | The bed, a binaural layout, and the most active objects kept as Object-Based elements; the rest mixed into the bed | Advanced-1 (Advanced-2 above 18 elements or channels); Base-Enhanced when no object is kept |
| Full Master | LPCM | Everything — every bed channel, every object as an Object-Based element, every ambisonics group | Advanced-1 / Advanced-2; Base-Enhanced when the master has no objects |
| Custom | Your choice | Your routing | Auto by default, or the profile you choose |
The YouTube preset is Orbit Spatial's recommended setup for YouTube, not a YouTube requirement: anything in the Simple or Base profile should play there today.
Profile
The Profile control offers Auto, Simple, Base, Base-Enhanced, Advanced-1 and Advanced-2.
- Auto (the default, and what the presets use) declares Base-Enhanced unless the file keeps Object-Based elements, in which case it declares Advanced-1, or Advanced-2 when the file needs more than 18 elements or channels.
- Choosing a fixed profile declares exactly that. Content the profile can't hold is refused at export with the reason — Orbit never folds elements quietly to make a file fit. Base-Enhanced never carries Object-Based elements, so a Base-Enhanced export that keeps objects is refused.
The element and channel budget shown while you set up the export follows the profile the file will declare.
Who can play the file
- Simple and Base files play in any Eclipsa Audio player.
- Base-Enhanced files play in players that support IAMF 1.1 or later.
- Advanced-1 and Advanced-2 files play in Orbit Spatial products, Esfera and players that support IAMF 2.0. A player that only knows IAMF 1.1 won't play them.
After an export, the conformance card says which of these applies to the file you just wrote.
Codecs
- Opus needs a 48 kHz master. A master at another sample rate is refused with the reason; convert it first.
- FLAC and LPCM are lossless and take the master's sample rate.
- AAC-LC is not yet available for export.
Files from earlier betas
Object files written by Orbit betas before 1.6.0 beta 7 used a pre-release object format labelled Base-Enhanced. Orbit still plays them. The orbit iamf convert command in the OrbitCore tools rewrites one in the ratified IAMF 2.0 format without re-encoding its audio.
