Export failure codes
When an export fails, Orbit shows Export failed with a code, for example Export failed · VE09 or Export failed · IE07, and a line saying what happened. The same line is written to Orbit's log, so you can quote it when you contact support.
- Codes starting VE come from the video render: the stage that draws your timeline and encodes it into the movie. In an IAMF/Eclipsa export with video, this runs before the audio is encoded.
- Codes starting IE come from the IAMF (Eclipsa Audio) export: checking the request, reading your ADM master, encoding, checking the finished file and saving it. In a batch export each file gets its own code, so one failure never stops the others.
Send us the whole line
The line under the code often names the frame and carries a system error number, e.g. AVFoundationErrorDomain -11800 (underlying NSOSStatusErrorDomain -12902). Those numbers tell us exactly what macOS refused. Copy the full message from the export window (the text is selectable), or from Orbit → Show Log.
Video export codes
| Code | What happened | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| VE00 | The export settings were invalid: an empty range, or a zero size or frame rate. | Check the export range covers some of the timeline, then export again. |
| VE01 | The GPU couldn't be set up for rendering. | Quit and reopen Orbit. If it persists, restart your Mac. |
| VE02 | The movie file couldn't be created. | Check the destination has free space and that you can write to it. |
| VE03 | macOS rejected the video settings (codec, size or frame rate). | Choose a smaller resolution, or H.264 instead of HEVC. Very large 360 canvases can exceed what the encoder accepts. |
| VE04 | The movie writer wouldn't start. | Check free disk space, then try again. |
| VE05 | A frame couldn't be drawn. The message names the frame. | Check the clip at that point on the timeline plays. A damaged or missing source is the usual cause. |
| VE06 | The GPU couldn't start copying a frame out for encoding. The message names the frame. | Close other GPU-heavy apps, then try again. |
| VE07 | The GPU copy of a frame came back empty. The message names the frame. | Close other GPU-heavy apps, then try again. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| VE08 | The video encoder stopped part-way. The message names the frame and the system error. | Usually a resource limit. Try again with other apps closed, or at a lower resolution. |
| VE09 | The video encoder refused a frame. The message names the frame and the system error. | Try again with other apps closed. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| VE10 | The video encoder raised an internal error on a frame. | Send us the message. |
| VE11 | Frames stopped coming back from the GPU for 30 seconds. | Restart Orbit and try again. If it repeats, restart your Mac. |
| VE12 | The movie took longer than 30 seconds to finish writing. | Check the destination disk. A slow or nearly full drive can cause this. |
| VE13 | The movie didn't complete. The message includes the system error. | Try again. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| VE14 | The video encoder accepted no frames for 30 seconds. | Usually another app, or Orbit's own playback, is holding the Mac's video encoder. Stop playback, close other video apps, and try again. |
IAMF export codes
| Code | What happened | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| IE00 | Orbit asked the exporter for something it couldn't accept. | This is a fault in Orbit, not your file. Send us the full message. |
| IE01 | No source file was given for this export. | Check the track is still in the session's playlist, then export again. |
| IE02 | The source is already an IAMF file. | IAMF export needs an ADM master (a BWF .wav with ADM metadata). Export from the ADM instead. |
| IE03 | No output file was given. | Choose a destination folder, then export again. |
| IE04 | The export declared a loudness value instead of letting Orbit measure it. | Orbit measures each file's loudness and writes that into the file. Remove the loudness target from the export settings, or send us the message if you didn't set one. |
| IE05 | The true-peak ceiling isn't between −60 and 0 dBTP. | Set the preset's true-peak ceiling to a value between −60 and 0, for example −1. |
| IE06 | The output would overwrite the source master. | Choose a different destination folder or naming pattern. |
| IE07 | The destination folder doesn't exist. Nothing was encoded. | Check the drive is connected and the folder still exists, or choose another folder. |
| IE08 | Two files in this batch would be written to the same name. | Add $preset or $tracknumber to the Folder or File name so every file gets its own name. See File names. |
| IE09 | The preset names a destination Orbit doesn't know. | Duplicate a built-in preset again, or update Orbit. |
| IE10 | The source master couldn't be opened. | Check the file is still where the session expects it and isn't on a disconnected drive. Relink it, then export again. |
| IE11 | The source's audio couldn't be measured to plan the export. | Open the master in Orbit and check it plays. Send us the message if it does. |
| IE12 | The source has no audio to export. | Check the master contains audio: open it in Orbit and play it. |
| IE13 | The chosen codec doesn't support the master's sample rate. | Use a 48 kHz master for Opus, or choose LPCM or FLAC in the preset. |
| IE14 | AAC was chosen on a system without the AAC encoder. | Choose Opus, FLAC or LPCM in the preset. |
| IE15 | The master has higher-order ambisonics in FuMa format, which IAMF can't carry. | Convert the ambisonics to AmbiX (ACN/SN3D) in your DAW and re-export the master. |
| IE16 | The graph merges objects into a bed the master doesn't have. | Open Edit Graph… for this file and route those objects to an object or channel element instead, or Reset to Auto. |
| IE17 | The content needs more elements or channels than the IAMF profile allows. | Choose a higher profile (Base-Enhanced) in the preset, or fold more objects in Edit Graph…. |
| IE18 | The encoded stream doesn't match the profile the preset asked for. | Choose the profile that fits the content in the preset. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| IE19 | The head-locked element doesn't fit within the profile's budget. | Choose a higher profile, or reduce the elements in Edit Graph…. |
| IE20 | The output file couldn't be created. | Check the destination has free space and that you can write to it. |
| IE21 | Writing the output file failed part-way. | Check free disk space and that the drive is still connected, then export again. |
| IE22 | The MP4 file couldn't be written. | Check free disk space, then export again. |
| IE23 | The audio codec couldn't be started. | Quit and reopen Orbit, then export again. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| IE24 | The audio codec stopped producing audio part-way through. | Export again. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| IE25 | The encoder stopped with an error. | Export again. Send us the full message if it repeats. |
| IE26 | The finished file failed Orbit's IAMF check, so it wasn't saved. | Export again. Send us the message: it names what failed. |
| IE27 | The finished file couldn't be read back, so it wasn't saved. | Export again. Send us the message if it repeats. |
| IE28 | The file couldn't be flushed to disk, so it wasn't saved. | Check the drive is still connected and healthy, then export again. |
| IE29 | The finished file couldn't be saved under its final name. | Check nothing else is using that name (a folder with the same name, or a file open in another app), then export again. |
| IE30 | This version of Orbit can't export IAMF. | Update to the latest Orbit. |
| IE31 | Orbit's render settings couldn't be applied, often a missing SOFA file for a custom HRTF. | Open Preferences ▸ Audio & Monitoring ▸ HRTF Library and click Use Built-in HRTF, or reselect your SOFA file, then export again. |
| IE32 | Orbit ran out of memory. | Close other apps and export fewer files at the same time, then try again. |
| IE33 | An internal error stopped the export. | Send us the full message. |
A failed file never replaces a good one
Orbit writes each file under a temporary name, checks it, and only then gives it its final name. If an export fails, any earlier file with the same name is left exactly as it was.
Large and 360 video
8K and 360 exports push the Mac's video encoder hardest. If one fails, try exporting again with Orbit stopped (not playing or scrubbing) and other video apps closed. Exporting at a lower resolution, or optimising the source first, also helps.
Still stuck?
Copy the full failure line and send it to support along with your Mac model and macOS version. See also Troubleshooting and Exporting.
